Remediation Process

The standard of remediation will be set down in an EPA endorsed Remediation Action Plan. The plan will contain remediation standards that have regard to current Australian and New South Wales statutes, world's best practice and relevant risk analysis.

Adherence to the remediation standards will be monitored in a number of ways. The contractor will need to keep continuous records of all activities on the site and these records will be subject to audit at any time by the EPA and Workcover. The records and the manner in which they are kept will be specified in the Remediation Action Plan. The EPA will also investigate any adverse reports by members of the public.

Indirect Thermal Desorption Contaminant Destruction Process

Another process, Direct Thermal Desorption, is receiving consideration and may be the process of choice – depending on the outcome of the EIS. When compared to the Indirect Thermal Desorption process the Direct Thermal Desorption process is faster, cheaper, and a single stage process. Whichever process is chosen, the equipment safety standards and performance will need to demonstrate how protection of public health and the environment will be achieved.
